I don’t think there is anyone out there who hasn’t experienced the pain and disappointment from a promise that has been broken. In Sheila Walsh’s book, “The Shelter of God’s Promises” we are led through a series of promises that will never be broken - the promises of God. Each of the 10 chapters revolves around a theme - Provision, Peace, Confidence, Love, Grace, Hope, Strength, More and Home. Each chapter includes a biblical story, history behind the story, and a personal story to help the reader identify and relate to God’s promises. The chapter formats also reflects the timelessness of a steadfast God. At the end of the book there is an accompanying Bible study question and answer section for each chapter.
I found the book to be extremely engaging and well-written. It appears as though Walsh was studious in her research as she provided extensive literal translations and quotations from a wide variety of authors and Bible commentaries. Personally, I learned things about various Bible accounts that I hadn’t known before. I enjoyed the organization of the book, which made it easy to read chapter-by-chapter, almost like a series of unit studies. Each chapter explored the theme with extensive thoroughness. This is the first book I have read by Sheila Walsh, who also authored “Gigi, God’s Little Princess” series... a favorite of my children. This would be a great resource for small group study. There is an accompanying DVD-based Bible study as well.
