Book Review: Free Book by Brian Tome

Category: Adult
Details: Softcover, 240 pages
SkoMomma's Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Without a doubt, the cover and title of this book is eye-catching. But it's the subtitle of Free Book* by Brian Tome that will reel the reader in, "I am a fanatic about freedom. And I'm fanatical about coming at you hard in this book. I'm tired of seeing people beaten down by the world's systems and by religion. I'm sick of seeing people live safe, predictable lives while God-given passions die. I hate the assumption that getting close to God means more rules and restrictions. No more. God's offering real freedom. Get Yours". Now that is a sub-title!

Brian Tome presents his thoughts about true freedom using a casual, yet passionate, style. It's as if he is talking to you as a friend. Tome begins by defining what true freedom is – overcoming fear. He continues by debunking the myth that religion is a form of bondage, but in fact, Jesus came to bring us true freedom. Next the book goes into strongholds – areas in your life that are keeping you from experiencing freedom. Once those strongholds are identified, Tome walks through the steps of overcoming them – a lengthy, but worthwhile process for sure.

One of the things I liked about this book is that no matter where you are in your faith-walk, you can glean something from this book and make your relationship with God and the life you live here on earth that much better. Another positive is the format of the book. There are fifteen chapters, each relatively short in length for those of us that can only squeeze in a few pages at a time. Further, each chapter is around a theme, making it a good book for small groups. There will also be a corresponding workbook, Free Guide, which will help the user to put the concepts into action.

This book has earned a spot on my book-shelf and I highly recommend it whether you are a new Christian or have been a Christian all of your life. There is something here for you.
